Weekly Update 31

Kyle locking up our apartment for the last time!

This week was totally consumed by moving “all the little stuff” from our old apartment to our new townhouse.  We took care of all the furniture last weekend with the help of friends, so it seemed like we just had the loose ends of the bathrooms and closets to bring over.  But we really underestimated the time needed – we worked on moving things every night this week for several hours!

The other strange thing about this week was that we didn’t have internet set up at home until Friday, and since I washed Kyle’s smartphone and there are no unsecured wireless networks nearby, that means we were totally without internet access whenever we were at the townhouse.  I can tell you getting ready for work in the morning takes a lot less time when I can’t read PF blogs!  At first it was really annoying to not have access and to work around our limitations with driving directions and such, but it’s actually a really good thing we didn’t have internet at home.  We were so busy with moving things that we didn’t have time to waste anyway because internet time would probably have directly cut into our sleep!

Oh, and I presented in lab meeting last Monday.  It went fine.  My PI and I talked afterwards and I am going to be very busy this fall as I need to:

  • collect a bunch of data
  • write and submit a paper
  • write and submit a patent
  • create a poster and attend a conference
  • stand for my preliminary examination so that I can advance to PhD candidacy

Congrats on the move. Glad you got it all done, as I HATE moving, and have only done it once, but I’ve helped so many friends out over the years. Also, thanks for the mention. Hope you’re enjoyed the new home.
