So Excited about Referrals!
Two people have used my referral link for Republic Wireless, which means if all goes well I’ll get a $38 credit to my account! You can tell what an advertising noob I am because I am way too excited about this. Like so excited that I had to write a post to deconstruct my feelings because they are totally weird.
I don’t even know if the people who signed up with my link did so through EPF or through the link I put on my FB page, though I suspect if they were FB friends they would have let me know personally. But through whichever method, people using my link makes me feel a little popular! I mean, they probably just wanted their own $19 credit, but they could have gotten it through another source instead of through mine.
I also feel that other people signing up validates my choice. I don’t know anyone IRL who uses Republic Wireless and there are definitely downsides and mixed reviews of the service/phone. Yet despite the downsides, which I tried to be honest about, other people came to the conclusion that the service is worth (at least) what they charge for it. So it makes me feel like I’m not being crazypants for using this weird new service.
And finally, the money – $38 is not chump change to us! And actually it means even more to me to get a $38 credit than to receive $38 through earned income of some kind (and I am using “earned” in not the IRS meaning). $38 from Kyle’s side hustle, for instance, would be split up according to our percentage-based budgeting principles so that only about half of it would go to something of our discretion (our Travel account). But receiving a credit like this bypasses those proper income channels so that it goes directly into freeing up $38 within our budget that we have the choice to spend on whatever or to put in our Travel account. I realize that these distinctions between credits and real income are just constructs I made up, but I suppose they mean something to me!
Anyway, thanks referral people! I appreciate it! A little too much!
Do you treat different types of “income” differently depending on the source or mode? Do you love when someone takes one of your recommendations (even if they were bribed to do it)?

Of all the affiliate products I’ve tried, I have made $.12 with Amazon Associates.
What gets me more excited is when one of my cookbooks sells. To date, I have sold 6 copies and made a little over a dollar. 🙂

We haven’t made anything off affiliate links yet, either.
I am considering writing an ebook and I would be thrilled if anyone bought it! Good luck to you!
Nice job Emily. I have gotten quite a bit from my Straight Talk review which has affiliate links in it. I tried and and still use it and my review was honest. I will be trying out Republic once they get the new phones this summer and that is based off of your review.

I like being able to promote something I actually use!
thanks for letting me know you’re a partner. When I go to republic, I’ll use your link for me & my wife.

Sweet, thanks!
Emily, that’s awesome, its awesome confirmation that you’ve been able to help people with their finances and make a little money. Whenever I get a bunch of supportive comments after a particularly bold post, it definitely feels like an affirmation.

It’s nice to know we’re not alone in our views or methods!
I love referral/affiliate links! $38 is awesome 🙂

I’d like to do more affiliate stuff but we don’t seem to have the minimum traffic to make the networks happy. :/
That is really awesome! I’m looking into starting affiliate links, so it is wonderful to hear someone that just started and made some sales. 🙂
I think this referral is easier than affiliate since they offer it to all their customers.
Add me to the list of people who just used your referral link. I’ve had my eye on Republic Wireless for a while now, but my tax refund and the referral bonus was enough to nudge me over the edge. Thanks for referring me!
THANKS, MELISSA!!!!! I hope you like the service!
Congrats! I don’t have enough traffic on mine to get any meaningful affiliate income but hopefully someday!

I think it’s a really nice source but you do need very high traffic, which we don’t have, either.
Haha I would be EXACTLY the same way! I’m just starting to experiment with affiliate links on my site, and I hope I can have some success with it!
Every time someone uses my link I get an email (there’s been FIVE now!) and I like it so much!! I don’t get notifications of other sources of income.
