Blog Update January – February 2014
This month I maintained the progress I made last month in terms of traffic, but the visitors were buoyed by the three posts I shared on my personal FB page. Apparently people in my life are very interested in effective frugal measures! FinCon14 early bird tickets went on sale this month and I BOUGHT MINE! (The financial details will be in next month’s report because I did it after February 15.) I’m committed to paying for … Read entire article »

My Inappropriate Reaction to Being Asked, “Do You Coupon?”
Last week I was standing around with a group of friends and one of them brought up my blog and asked some critical questions about my having PF as such a huge hobby, so we were chatting about those concepts. (It’s so fun to have my IRL friends know about this blog. I love connecting with them over this unusual but revealing topic.) An acquaintance that didn’t know about EPF walked up to us and … Read entire article »
Do You Support More Openness About Finances?
I guess I haven’t fully understood why money is the last taboo topic in our society. Obviously, I wanted to talk about money so much in my real life that I created a blog about it and I’ve only gotten worse since then. You can connect almost anything we do or value in life to money somehow, which is why writing in the “niche” of personal finance actually opens you up to writing about almost … Read entire article »

Blog Statistics Update December 2013 – January 2014
I had hoped that this month would be the one I got ahead in my posts, and I did a little bit but now I’m right back to writing 0-3 days in advance! I have plenty of ideas for posts still but keep putting off the ones that require more research. It’s disappointing that EPF’s traffic is lower than it was a year ago. Mostly I think that is from lost search engine traffic. I need … Read entire article »

Blog Statistics Update November – December 2013
In this last month we celebrate the 2-year anniversary of EPF’s launch! I wrote a post about how blogging has enriched my life, both figuratively and literally. We also received a check that puts us in the black for the blog this year – our income exceeds our expenses. More on that in the Earning section below. In the last month, I’ve been late on getting up two posts. I have still maintained my perfectly consistent … Read entire article »

Our Two-Year Anniversary: How Blogging Has Enriched My Life
Last week we passed the two-year anniversary of Evolving Personal Finance; our first post went up on November 21, 2011. (It was so interesting for me to re-read that post and see how much and how little has changed in terms of my vision for this blog!) I let the one-year anniversary pass without comment because it didn’t feel like that much of an accomplishment for me, but this year for whatever reason I am … Read entire article »

Blog Statistics Update October – November 2013
What do you know, we had a sneakily higher month for pageviews! I have been so discouraged by the analytics lately that I haven’t been paying much attention, so it was a nice surprise when I finally looked at the numbers. I’m sure it was due to my GRS guest post and the post I put up to direct new visitors to previous posts. It was our highest month for pagviews, though not quite the … Read entire article »

HuffPoLive Segment on Boomerang Kids Paying Rent
Today I participated in a HuffPost Live segment with Erin from Broke Millennial that was inspired by her great post on why parents should charge their boomerang kids rent. Erin asked me to join her as someone who paid a rent-equivalent while I lived with my parents post-college. So for those of you who are curious about my and Erin’s faces/voices, the segment is embedded below. It was supposed to be 20-25 minutes but was cut to about 10 – can you tell I didn’t get all my talking points in? 😉 About a year ago I wrote two posts of my own about boomerang kids, based on my experience as one: Boomerang Kids, Listen Up: It’s Not All about You How to Be an Exemplary Boomerang Kid Thanks so much for asking me … Read entire article »
Stretch Goal: FinCon 2014!
I have absolutely devoured all the FinCon13 recap posts in my RSS reader this week! I know some of the writers think they are boring/tedious for their readers, but since I “know” so many of the participants it’s interesting to me to hear about them hanging out together. I am considering buying the Virtual Pass so I can at least learn from the presentations, although I know that the in-person networking is the more important … Read entire article »
Welcome Get Rich Slowly Readers!
Today I have a guest post up on Get Rich Slowly. EPF readers, please check it out – this is the post in which I reveal our net worth! Get Rich Slowly readers, thanks so much for surfing over to check us out. If you want to hear more you can subscribe through RSS, follow us on Twitter, or fan us on Facebook. We have new content up every Monday, Wednesday, and Friday. It feels so strange to tell our whole story on another blog where I can’t link back to all the posts I’ve done on the individual components of it! I hope you came over to this post because you were interested in learning more about some aspect or another of our story, so I’ll use this post to … Read entire article »
