Impulse Purchase for the Win
In January, Kyle and I did something completely out of character for us: we made a large impulse purchase. We literally fell victim to advertising and the “sale” mentality, but I actually think it turned out to be a great decision! Maybe when you train train train yourself not to make rash or quick spending decisions, the exceptions you make work out? Kyle subscribes to some of those ridiculous deals-of-the-day type emails. (I’d rather not expose … Read entire article »

April 2015 Money Puddle and Spending Report
This month, I transitioned from living in the DC area with my parents to living in Durham with Kyle again. So we had a half-month of my DC expenses (public transport, gas to get between the cities) and a half-month of our normal Durham expenses. We had a nice fat income because we were both working full-time in March and fairly low-ish expenses. We still were not focused in April on keeping our discretionary spending … Read entire article »

My Unfrugal Shopping Spree
In the last three weeks, I have been on the largest shopping spree of my life, bar none. This week I am starting my three-month fellowship in DC, which necessitated a professional wardrobe. My Best Clothing Purchase Ever
When I was a sophomore in high school, I gave up JV soccer to row with my high school’s crew team. I bought several pairs of spandex shorts during high school to wear in practice, but one stands out – they have become my … Read entire article »

Just in case you missed the zillions of reminders from Google Reader itself or any of the other blogs you read, today is the last day of Google Reader’s life! You will have to switch to another RSS reader if you want to keep having all your great blog content organized in one place. There are many other options – Kyle is now using The Old Reader and I am using Feedly. And if you’ve never signed up to get EPF’s content through an RSS feed, this is a great opportunity! We had another week of heavy work this week and not much else. We’ve tried to fit in as much tennis as we can but it’s been raining quite a bit. That’s also put a damper on our grilling but … Read entire article »

We Have Too Many Gift Cards!
Kyle and I have recently been reminded of a pretty good problem to have: We have a ton of gift cards and we have no plan for spending them! Why We Have So Many Cards 1) I think we might receive more than the average people because I, particularly, am very difficult to buy for. People know that I like to read so they tend to give me gift cards to booksellers (we have a lot to … Read entire article »
