Weekly Update 28

We weren’t particularly busy with activities this week, which was great!  We spent a lot of time working in preparation for leaving for our WEEK-LONG BEACH VACATION starting today!  Posting will go on as normal but I may or may not be responsive with comments.  I’m hoping for a very relaxing week that will include lots of time for blogging (this is a hobby I still enjoy!) but certainly I’m going to take long stretches away from my computer to enjoy the sun and surf.  When we get back we’ll have one week before we start our moving process and school starts!  I’m actually taking a class this semester – first time in two years – and I have a book list and everything, which feels very strange.

Posts I Liked

Eric from Narrow Bridge Finance showed us how to get a Kindle for $0!  As I mentioned, Kyle has been debating buying a Kindle (vs. a Nook or a tablet) and was swaying back toward the Kindle when I saw this post.  We are still mulling it over but will probably open an Amazon credit card to take advantage of this deal. (affiliate links – thanks for using!)

My Alternate Life showed us her thought process as she evaluated whether or not she should still pursue a financial goal she set some time ago.

As a counterpoint to my post on how to cut grocery spending, read Andrea from So Over This‘s list of confessions as to all the PF “mistakes” she makes in grocery shopping because she hates it so much.

J. Money from Budgets Are Sexy has started a new series on viewing and critiquing snapshots of families’ financial situations.  I’m excited about this because I love looking at how other people manage their money!  However, J. Money didn’t like my suggestion for the submitters to include more detail in the posts.

Jeremy from Modest Money listed How to Cut Your Food Spending – Reducing Grocery Costs in his favorite posts.

Top Comment

The top comment this week was one Average Joe from The Free Financial Advisor left on My New Frugal/Cheap Cell Phone Plan – and not just because he was complimentary of our decision!  He pointed out of the importance of “know[ing] the downside going into the plan. When bad things happen, you expect them instead of being surprised.”
