Weekly Update 17
Low-key week for us. The only out-of-the-ordinary event was a going-away party for some close friends of ours. We used to be in a church small group together so we got all the members of the group from when it disbanded together. It was a lovely evening and a great reminder to capitalize on the time we have with our friends while we still live near them!
Kyle and I finally returned our long-held DVDs to Netflix, so we watched our two new received films this weekend. On Friday we watched Bridesmaids and we were really disappointed! The movie got such good reviews but we just found it very sad and not nearly as funny as some of Apatow’s other movies. I also think that movies with SNL stars are a little weird/distracting. We also watched The Muppets (2011), which charmed Kyle but I found it just okay. At least it was an uplifting storyline!

Jordann from My Alternate Life concisely evaluated the protest over stay-at-home parents being denied access to individual credit: “I think this whole protesting is just a knee jerk, emotional reaction… that doesn’t have much basis in logic.”

hahaha – I watched Bridesmaids by myself at a theater because I had a groupon that was going to expire and didn’t have anyone to go with. It was right after J and I got engaged – you know, the most stressful part of the wedding planning process. (Well, at least my experience is that most people struggle most in the first month as budget/location/style is being hashed out.) Anyway, it really stressed me out a lot!!!!! I was also offended by the stereotypes perpetuated by the movie. However, oddly, I watched it a second time with J recently and, having gotten past those two issues, actually enjoyed it.
I wasn’t really offended by the movie or anything since the characters were so extreme. I think I was disproportionately affected by wedding movies around when we were engaged, too. My favorite to watch was “Father of the Bride.” 🙂 I think our last month of our engagement was the most stressful because we had left so many things to the end!
Also, I agree about the whole SNL star thing… it’s weird seeing them off the set.
I hope you have a wonderful day and thanks for mentioning our blog swap!
