Lots of updates this week as I skipped this post last Sunday! 1) Last weekend we were at my parents’ place for Thanksgiving, which was a great visit as usual. The spectacular point was my 10-year high school reunion. It was wonderful to spend time with so many friends and acquaintances, some of whom I still have active relationships with and some of whom I haven’t seen in 10 years! Several people told me that they … Read entire article »

I am happy to report that my intense work period is over (probably)! I both worked through my problems and found that my deadline had been pushed back! Kyle has slowed down but is still writing his dissertation. Last night, Kyle and I saw Ender’s Game and went out for dinner. As Ender’s Game is my all-time favorite book and I have read it numerous times, we spent the entire dinner discussing the differences between the book and the movie (i.e. virtually everything). I was pretty disappointed, but Kyle had to explain to me why some of the adaptations made sense for turning a book into a film. Posts I Liked Johnny Moneyseed discusses the areas his family sacrifices in to save 75% of their income and how difficult they perceive those sacrifices … Read entire article »

As you can see from the late post today, we’re still very busy with work! I’ve worked full days Saturday and Sunday in addition to evenings during the week… Ugh. But Kyle deep-cleaned the entire kitchen while I was at work on Saturday, which was wonderful to come home to. (I don’t might light cleaning but I hate deep cleaning – gross.) We did see Gravity yesterday ($25! I remember when…). My work was going terribly so I knocked off at 7 PM and we went to a 10 PM showing. We were practically the only ones in the theater. The visuals were great, of course, and we had a wonderful conversation on the inaccuracies later. 🙂 Sorry for not leaving many comments around the blogosphere this week. There were plenty of … Read entire article »

What can I say about this week? It was grueling, as most of my weeks have been recently. I’m really working at an unsustainable pace, but I only need to sustain it through the beginning of December. 🙂 I did have kind of a funny one-car incident on Saturday. Kyle was working at church from 12:30 PM through the service, which starts at 4:00 PM. He dropped me off at work in the morning and we thought he might be able to steal away for a few minutes to pick me up close to 4:00 PM, but it didn’t seem like it would work out because there was also a football game starting at 4:00 PM and we thought the campus might be difficult to drive in and out of quickly. … Read entire article »

More of the same this week, so nothing new to report! Work is coming out of our ears. I’m probably going to be working quite a lot through the first week in December, and who knows when Kyle will let off the gas on writing and editing his dissertation. The big news this week was my guest post over at Get Rich Slowly last Sunday. I enjoyed the comments so much! Kyle and I even each got an internet coincidence out of it – GRS is really popular! 😉 Other than that, just tons of work this week. Kyle is writing feverishly and I’m putting in lots of hours in the lab preparing for an experiment with my collaborators. The only break in our routine was a dentist appointment, which went smoothly and our wallet is only $252 lighter. 🙂 Posts I Liked Jacob from iHeartBudgets impresses again with another plan for traveling for free – this one over four cities! Another uneventful week for us – I’m still doing my normal activities and Kyle is still thesis-writing like a madman. I’m trying to get some work out to my collaborators but it hasn’t been going terribly well. The timing of this retreat that I’m on (I’m in Wilmington, NC!) wasn’t the greatest for that reason, but isn’t that always how it goes? I’m happy for the break in routine! I have a guest post up at Get Rich Slowly this morning – please check it out and leave me comments! Nothing out of the ordinary to report this week. Just lots of work for me and lots of thesis-writing for Kyle. Oh, and I decided at the last second to attend a retreat with my church next weekend so that’s $110. I’ve said a zillion times recently that I need a vacation so this is a good holdover until Thanksgiving/Christmas/Kyle’s defense. We are keeping our nose to the grindstones this week so there wasn’t much time for extracurriculars. A certain someone has started writing his dissertation and has a tight deadline so I’m being supportive/expressing solidarity by working at most of the same times he is (well, when those times are before midnight – that is my bedtime!). We have switched from attending church at 11:00 AM on Sundays to 4:00 PM on Saturdays – well, we’re trying to commit to the switch. It’s a little weird to change our weekend routine, but I’m happy to have the Sunday mornings free. Anyone else attend church on Saturdays? Oh! We spent $180 this week! On tickets to my 10-year high school reunion! I’m so excited! I got to see a bunch of my … Read entire article »
